Great Bath Feast : A month of celebrating food!

There are so many reasons to visit Bath during the colder months of the year. It really is one of those places that truly shines in the cold weather, due to the stunning architecture, cosy atmospheres created within restaurants and tea rooms with fire places and most importantly comfort foods. Although summer is a great opportunity to showcase our wonderful English Strawberries and fruit varieties, we feel Autumn is where the food really shines. Bath’s produces some wonderful things to eat, ranging from cakes and ale, to gastro and gourmet experiences and throughout the end of September and all through October, visiting celebrities, food writers and local food businesses are putting on a range of food events to tantalise every taste bud for the Great Bath Feast.

Details of all the events in the month long food programme can be seen on the website and make sure you follow them on Twitter for exclusive content and updates!

One of the things us at Villa Magdala will be doing is showcasing our award winning breakfast for our guests as part of the Great Bath Breakfast. Breakfast is our personal favourite meal of the day (aside from our afternoon tea and cake of course) and we’re always determined to consistently produce homemade jams, locally sourced meat and eggs, to give our guests the very best Bath can offer for their visit.

As part of the Great Bath Breakfast we’ve also teamed up with Bath’s dog treat company Four Legged Fancies to produce our dog Billy his very own special breakfast!

Billy’s Barking Bath Breakfast

Toast (beef biscuits made with beef stock and rapeseed oil)

Beans (Crunchy biscuits coloured with organic carrot juice)

Bacon (Bacon biscuits made with beetroot juice and tasty bacon bits)

Fried Egg (A chicken stock doggy donut filled with an organic carrot juice biscuit)

Sausages (Crunchy Biscuits made with fresh chicken, liver, eggs and wholegrain flour)

During the Great Bath Feast month guests will be able to purchase their very own Barking Bath Breakfast to bring home to their dogs!

Mmm Yummy!

Just in case you’re all a bit overwelmed with what to do we’ve put together our top 10 foodie events that tickled our tummies! Enjoy!

The Villa Magdala B&B August/September Newsletter

It’s officially been wedding season at Villa Magdala throughout August, tonnes of brides and guests staying and getting married at nearby beautiful venues! It really is a delight to have wedding parties staying with us, seeing them miraculously transform from casual to formal wear in the space of a morning.

One exciting wedding involved designer Sassie Holford dressing the bride Hannah into her spectacular ‘Grace’ wedding dress ready to marry her fiance at the Bath Abbey!

The wedding even featured in the Bath Chronicle as the groom had an award from the Queen for his services to the army! We also loved the hand painted silk dresses the bridemaids wore, truly beautiful! We wish them all the best for the future.

Never had we thought that judging Cake would be so hard, until we judged our We Love Cake Competition last week! With so many cakes to choose from, it was particularly hard to narrow them down! Congratulations to Georgina Pearson for her Plum and Almond upside down cake, which won top marks and was our overall winner of a 2 night free stay and a Classic Cupcake class with Bath Cake Company.

We felt the texture, taste, and appearance of the cake came out superb and most appropriate to serve to our guests!

But there was one other cake that touched our sugary hearts, that we couldn’t leave her without a prize! Rebecca Smith’s Rosewater, Raspberry and Chocolate cake was an absolute delight. She’s won a 1 night midweek stay with us and a small prize from Bath Cake Company!

Things that we’re doing to make your stay even more special, for an extra £5.00pp you will be able to use hotel standard robes and slippers for the duration of your stay. After having so many romantic couples staying, along with some proposals, we thought this would be a perfect addition to make a romantic escape even more perfect with us!

A truly romantic time of year to stay with us in Bath is particularly Christmas time. One of our favourite things to do on a chilly evening is to stroll the historical streets of Bath, nursing a mulled wine and wandering around the infamous Bath Christmas Market which runs from the 22nd November to the 9th December. The best time to go to the market is when it’s not too busy so you can really see all the gifts and foodie bits on offer. Perfect for getting your christmas shopping done without all the rush! Midweek evening’s are the best and it just so happens we have a few dates of availability at Villa Magdala. Contact us on 01225 466329 for our special midweek rates.

For the ultimate Christmas Present, why not indulge your partner with our latest deal? For dates in January or February 2013, we feel it’s the best time to explore the thermae spa to get the dramatic contrast of the cold air and the hot water! Stay any night between Sunday –Thursday inc, in January or February 2013 for as little as £40.00 pppn, but you must book before November to secure these rates!

Our dog Billy is still as popular as ever, he now has his own YOUTUBE page!   where he’s been displaying his tricks in the garden!

Our next posts throughout September and October will be celebrating the Great Bath Feast  month which will showcase Bath’s best food offerings, suppliers and restaurants. With events such as ‘Bath on a plate’ , taste trails and the ‘Great Bath Breakfast’ it’s something we’ve been looking forward to for a while; October will be a great month to visit Bath.  Stay tuned for what Billy will also be eating at the Great Bath Feast…!
