April/May Newsletter

What a fabulous, busy few months we have had at our Bath B&B Hotel …

and i am thoroughly pleased to say, as with the rest of England, that we have finally had our first glimpse of real summer heat!

Just as well, as we’ve had some new grass laid out the front and added new tables and chairs so that our guests can enjoy their afternoon tea and cake with a glass of bubbly outside. We love the fact our guests now have several areas to sit out and relax, the breakfast room, our sweet back garden and now our terrace outside.

And to go with this occasional sun we’ve updated our seasonal breakfast menu to add a few more treats to enjoy just to spoil you a bit more!  All of which have been extremely popular and given the current feedback we’ll definitely be returning these every year!

  • Warm Waffles with Maple Syrup and Bananas
  • Buttermilk Pancakes with Grilled Peaches, Honey and Mascarpone
  • Lemon & Blueberry Breakfast Fool – Homemade Honey Granola, Greek yoghurt, Lemon Curd and Blueberries

One of the best places for a mini getaway

Villa Magdala Hotel Bath

We’ve been lucky to have a few travel journalists staying with us over these past few months and we’re extremely proud of our review in TNT Magazine, gloriously praising our every morning- bucks fizz offering and our perfect flat level location- just a 10 min walk to all the main attractions in Bath. We really chuffed that others are now appreciating the hard work we put in to revamp this wonderful B&B.

What about a Babymoon in Bath ?

Villa Magdala Hotel Bath

We have come to notice over the past year that we’re the perfect B&B for a Babymoon. We are always one to hop onto a trend, and apparently a lot of mothers-to-be are looking for places to getaway and relax before the big day arrives! We plan to put a bespoke Babymoon package together over the next few weeks to ensure we can give mums to be a really special treat before all the excitement. Make sure you like us on Facebook and Follow us on Twitter to ensure you hear about it first!

February/March Newsletter

Villa Magdala, Hotel, B&B, Bath

It’s been wonderfully busy here at our Bath Bed and Breakfast over the past couple of months, some of us went exploring abroad but the rest of the staff made sure everything was running smoothly for our guests!

Bath is truly fantastic for getting people involved in activities, on the 3rd of March we saw the efforts of so many people (Including our daughter Poppy!), take part in the Bath Half Marathon 2013!  Everyone came down in their running gear and had a hearty breakfast before they ran the 13.1 mile traffic free course. The best part was seeing the smiley faces as they came back with their finisher medals! Billy was there ready to run but alas was distracted by a butcher on a side street, he also decided that he wouldn’t enter Crufts this year and give others a chance at grabbing gold; how very kind! He is planning however to take part in both next year after a *well deserved* break.

Villa Magdala Hotel Bath

Our chef Will has been putting together some ideas for our new spring/summer breakfast menu and would like to ask our social feeds on Facebook and Twitter for any suggestions! Perhaps there was something abroad you tried on holiday that you’d like to see on the menu:)

We’ve been enjoying the bursts of sun that Bath has been getting now and again, it is so beautiful exploring and sitting in Henrietta park (opposite the B&B) with the slight bit of warmth fighting through the occasional cold wind. We can only hope that the spring weather turns quickly now and we all get more Vitamin D!

From the 13th to the 21st of April Bath in Fashion is taking place, a week long celebration of everything fashion. Here is our top three recommendations of events we think are going to be truly fabulous. (darhling)

1. A ‘Look Fabulous Lunch at Hall & Woodhouse Enjoy a two course lunch with a glass of wine, a glass of fizz on arrival plus Fabulous goodie bag at Hall & Woodhouse.

2. Spring/Summer 2013 Collections Headline catwalk show.

3. Secret Tea Party ‘The exclusive event, organised by vintage glamour girl, Mrs Stokes, treats you to an evening of fun and fizz, a ‘Best Dressed’ competition, a dance workshop and performance by professional dancers, what-to-wear style clinic, a glass of bubbly, scrumptious afternoon tea and optional makeovers (payable on the day). All this should put you in the mood for the Best Dressed competition”

Happy New Year to all!

Villa Magdala Hotel Bath

It’s been a rather hectic break for us, but all for the best as we decided to give our Kitchen a complete revamp and the whole B&B a look over to make sure everything is looking lovely for our guests this year. We’re looking forward to a bit of warmer weather in the spring so we can get some outdoor afternoon tea’s in full swing; hoping that this winter chill we’ve been having will be the worse of it. Saying that however, Bath is a wonderful place when the sun is out whether it’s hot or cold!

Our chef Will has been busy over Christmas- serving his delicious homemade Christmas Cake to our guests which was highly praised by all. He’s now developing a new breakfast menu and would like to ask our followers on Facebook and Twitter what they’d like introduced! We’re always looking for something a bit different, so if you’re looking to stay with us soon make sure you get involved and suggest your favourite breakfast- anything goes!

One of our major plans for this year is to get some tables and chairs outside the front, so that people can enjoy their breakfast and complimentary bucks fizz when the sun starts to peek out more and warm everyone up! We’re looking to also offer afternoon teas to non residents so that our eager Bath followers can enjoy Will’s very popular new Earl Grey Tea Bread- it’s truly phenomenal.

Billy is still prancing around Villa Magdala like a lord in Downton Abbey, being summoned by our guests frequency- only to then be showered with gifts! His latest addition is a new neckerchief… he’s just so used to this high life!

The Room 2 Mystery Competition!

We’ve been noticing alot of mixed opinions lately good/bad on Trip Advisor of one of our rooms- Room 2! It seems to be the marmite room at Villa Magdala, but we have no reason why really as we think it’s wonderful. It is one of the cheaper rooms we offer, as it is on the ground floor and as always if anyone has any issues during their stay it’s best to just be honest with us as soon as you encounter any problems and we’ll sort it out there and then! It’s awful for us to see a bad review when we had no idea there was an issue, we’re always more than happy to make sure your stay is perfect.

The Villa Magdala Bath B&B Christmas Newsletter!

Well November has certainly been busy for us at our Bath B&B ; the terrible rain we’ve been having will never stop us or our guests from enjoying themselves in Bath’s fantastic city center though! Villa Magdala, Bath, B&B, Umbrella

Our new umbrella’s have been also going down a storm too (excuse the pun), complete with their own handy shoulder carry bag (as modelled here by one of our staff members); and if you were following us on Twitter you’d have noticed us giving away one as a prize- congratulations Monika Kennedy 🙂

Villa Magdala, Umbrella

We were so delighted that after so much work in transforming our Bath Bed and Breakfast over the years that it has been recognised by so many as one of the best places to stay in Bath. When we heard that the Huffington Post had stayed and reviewed Villa Magdala we were over the moon!

Over the Past few months we’ve been asking our followers and likers on Twitter and Facebook to tell us the answer to ‘What was your personal highlight from your stay at our Villa Magdala B&B? in a Poll. The majority and winning percent of the vote was for our Award Winning Breakfast! Closely followed by our Luxury Hypnos Beds and The Staff. Billy was fourth. He didn’t sound best pleased when he found out, so we got him a new bed to cheer him up!

Billy and his new bed

Our restaurant of the month that has been favoured by all the guests during their stay is Sotto Sotto. It is a personal favourite of ours too, such fantastic food and atmosphere. We can highly recommend the Branzino con speck e asparagi: Fillet of fresh sea bass wrapped with smoked parma ham, sautéed with white wine, cherry tomatoes and asparagus. Stunning.

Christmas is upon us! We’ve put up our decorations and you’ll be happy to know that our stag General Staveley is enjoying his new magical makeover. All in a day’s work.

Christmas Decorations, B&B, Bath, Villa Magdala

If you haven’t already read our post on where to get unique Christmas presents from independent shops in Bath we’d suggest you have a look at support these shops on your journeys or as a local in town, the service in these shops is extraordinary.  Failing that you can always purchase Christmas gift vouchers for stays at Villa Magdala, just get in touch!

One of our favourite things to do at Christmas time in Bath after visiting the Bath Christmas Market is to skate on the fantastic Ice Rink in Royal Victoria Park  It really reminds us of skating in Central Park in New York, beautiful, romantic and fun for the kids.

We thought as a Christmas gift to all our social media followers this year that we would get William Hyde our head chef  to create a special Christmas recipe for you. We love Toppings Bookshop. This is exactly what we mean by having excellent service in an independent- if you need to buy a book as a gift this Christmas in Bath- this is the shop to go to.
Topping and Company Bookshop
Every bookshop should be like this, stacked from floor to ceiling, a labyrinth of books. If you’re looking for a place to stop for tea or coffee too, then look no further, as when we last visited we were simply asked if we’d like a cup as we were flicking through a mountain of books we’d selected. Who said Christmas shopping had to be stressful? It certainly isn’t at Toppings.
