August/September Newsletter

August at our Bath B&B was a crazy busy month! Full of people on holidays, celebrating with their kids, getting married and couple spending romantic weekends away together. Summer in Bath is truly a wonderful time and we were lucky to get some fantastic sun for at least a good few weeks; our lovely new terrace and sun chairs have been well and truly put to good use- especially on those sunny mornings at breakfast time.

Flowers at Villa Magdala

Now the autumn weather is starting to show and soon in the colours of the leaves, we find ourselves getting out our Villa Magdala umbrellas for journeys around town. We actually cannot wait for this time of year to start. Bath has so much to offer in the autumn and winter months and with the Great Bath Feast starting in October there has never been a greater time to visit if you are a lover of cosy, seasonal food and events associated. We have a good few rooms available throughout October currently, why not pick an event to go to and stay the night? We’ll be offering our award winning breakfast as part of the ‘Great Bath Breakfast.’

Sunday Times, b&b in Bath, Bath, B&B

Villa Magdala has been lucky to get some attention from the Press lately- we were so happy to be including in a round up of places to stay and things to do in Bath in the Sunday Times with praise such as ‘Sets the Bar High for B&B’s’ , we were truly delighted.

Crumbs Magazine, villa magdala, shoot, piece

Crumbs Magazine came round to Villa Magdala to take some food photos and interview us for a ‘House Call’ piece in their magazine! Billy enjoyed also being in the spotlight once again and is dreaming of what he will do when he becomes even more rich and famous…

Christmas, dare we say it, is slowly creeping towards us. Although you may not be thinking about it just yet- our rooms are booking up incredibly fast for the infamous Bath Christmas Market starting on the 28th November -15th December 2013. It is undoubtably one of the most special times to visit and we’ll always give our recommendations on what stalls, food spots to go to. You can check our online availability for rooms during this period here.

Hope to see you very soon

Happy New Year to all!

Villa Magdala Hotel Bath

It’s been a rather hectic break for us, but all for the best as we decided to give our Kitchen a complete revamp and the whole B&B a look over to make sure everything is looking lovely for our guests this year. We’re looking forward to a bit of warmer weather in the spring so we can get some outdoor afternoon tea’s in full swing; hoping that this winter chill we’ve been having will be the worse of it. Saying that however, Bath is a wonderful place when the sun is out whether it’s hot or cold!

Our chef Will has been busy over Christmas- serving his delicious homemade Christmas Cake to our guests which was highly praised by all. He’s now developing a new breakfast menu and would like to ask our followers on Facebook and Twitter what they’d like introduced! We’re always looking for something a bit different, so if you’re looking to stay with us soon make sure you get involved and suggest your favourite breakfast- anything goes!

One of our major plans for this year is to get some tables and chairs outside the front, so that people can enjoy their breakfast and complimentary bucks fizz when the sun starts to peek out more and warm everyone up! We’re looking to also offer afternoon teas to non residents so that our eager Bath followers can enjoy Will’s very popular new Earl Grey Tea Bread- it’s truly phenomenal.

Billy is still prancing around Villa Magdala like a lord in Downton Abbey, being summoned by our guests frequency- only to then be showered with gifts! His latest addition is a new neckerchief… he’s just so used to this high life!

The Room 2 Mystery Competition!

We’ve been noticing alot of mixed opinions lately good/bad on Trip Advisor of one of our rooms- Room 2! It seems to be the marmite room at Villa Magdala, but we have no reason why really as we think it’s wonderful. It is one of the cheaper rooms we offer, as it is on the ground floor and as always if anyone has any issues during their stay it’s best to just be honest with us as soon as you encounter any problems and we’ll sort it out there and then! It’s awful for us to see a bad review when we had no idea there was an issue, we’re always more than happy to make sure your stay is perfect.

Great Bath Feast : A month of celebrating food!

There are so many reasons to visit Bath during the colder months of the year. It really is one of those places that truly shines in the cold weather, due to the stunning architecture, cosy atmospheres created within restaurants and tea rooms with fire places and most importantly comfort foods. Although summer is a great opportunity to showcase our wonderful English Strawberries and fruit varieties, we feel Autumn is where the food really shines. Bath’s produces some wonderful things to eat, ranging from cakes and ale, to gastro and gourmet experiences and throughout the end of September and all through October, visiting celebrities, food writers and local food businesses are putting on a range of food events to tantalise every taste bud for the Great Bath Feast.

Details of all the events in the month long food programme can be seen on the website and make sure you follow them on Twitter for exclusive content and updates!

One of the things us at Villa Magdala will be doing is showcasing our award winning breakfast for our guests as part of the Great Bath Breakfast. Breakfast is our personal favourite meal of the day (aside from our afternoon tea and cake of course) and we’re always determined to consistently produce homemade jams, locally sourced meat and eggs, to give our guests the very best Bath can offer for their visit.

As part of the Great Bath Breakfast we’ve also teamed up with Bath’s dog treat company Four Legged Fancies to produce our dog Billy his very own special breakfast!

Billy’s Barking Bath Breakfast

Toast (beef biscuits made with beef stock and rapeseed oil)

Beans (Crunchy biscuits coloured with organic carrot juice)

Bacon (Bacon biscuits made with beetroot juice and tasty bacon bits)

Fried Egg (A chicken stock doggy donut filled with an organic carrot juice biscuit)

Sausages (Crunchy Biscuits made with fresh chicken, liver, eggs and wholegrain flour)

During the Great Bath Feast month guests will be able to purchase their very own Barking Bath Breakfast to bring home to their dogs!

Mmm Yummy!

Just in case you’re all a bit overwelmed with what to do we’ve put together our top 10 foodie events that tickled our tummies! Enjoy!

A rather lot has happened in the past year at Villa Magdala, but one thing we will not change is our enthusiasm for running a luxury bed and breakfast in this beautiful city of Bath.

Our refurbishment is now complete and our guests love it which is clear from the glorious reviews we’ve had on Trip Advisor; we’d like to thank everyone who has reviewed it’s lovely to see such positive responses! We’re still looking after lots of guests from all around the globe which is great to see, we enjoy helping you find yourselves around Bath!

We’ve still kept all the things that were always great about Villa Magdala. It’s location so close to the city centre, our off-street parking, and the wonderful period features  but we have up-dated the decor to new levels of comfort, with some modern day additions such as iPod docking stations in each room, large Flat Screen TV’s and heavenly Hypnos beds!  Some new friendly faces too amongst our staff but still with the same determination to ensure your stay here in Bath is  memorable one!

We are very lucky to have lot’s going on in Bath this coming months! If you take a look at our website under the ‘Out and About’ tab for all the details. On the 19th you have the chance to see the Roman Baths by torchlight at night which provides a truly magical atmosphere for exploring! Especially exciting also is the Olympic Torch Relay through the city on the 22nd of May; the route is very close to us! If you do fancy coming to stay for that weekend please book through our website to ensure you get your breakfast and parking included in your room rate!

In other news, the Villa Magdala dog Billy has been enjoying his new found fame since he appeared on our website, Twitter and Facebook pages. He’s always popular with our guests, so is used to the camera! If you follow us on Twitter and Facebook you can ask him any questions about the b&b , he knows the hotel inside and out! Could be be the new Uggie?

We’ll be blogging about the best cafes, places to go and things to see in Bath so stay tuned!
