December Newsletter

To start off our December Newsletter we think it’s fitting to finally reveal Billy’s Christmas Outfit for 2013… After a lengthy decision making process, Billy has opted for reindeer antlers, elf ears and a fluffy Santa Scarf. Over on the Villa Magdala Facebook page we had some fun coming up with some captions, please feel free to add your own over the next few weeks of Christmas. The best we’ve had so far is ‘Is he in charge of Elf and Safety?!’.

June/July news at the Villa Magdala B&B

I think it is safe to say that Villa Magdala is becoming more popular by the day, and not just because we’re great at what we do but rather because our dog Billy’s ‘celebrity status’ is ever increasing!  Dawn Porter, British television presenter, writer, comedian ( and a just a lovely lady!), came to stay and Billy told us she was solely here to just see him for an exclusive photo shoot: we remain unconvinced, but happy for his new networking skills across his Twitter!Dawn, Porter, Villa Magdala, Bath, Billy, Dog, lovely, lady

Jubilee celebrations in Bath were amazing. In particular the fireworks on the Friday were stunning, coupled with amazing music all over the city in a variety of venues; our guests really enjoyed themselves and welcomed a return to their Jubilee-free rooms after all the festivities!  Bath truly managed, as always, to cater to all tastes of activities.

Other exciting things coming up in July and August in Bath and surrounding areas, seems to be the ‘Festival Season’!

Kilver Court  in Shepton Mallet, about a 30 minute drive away, is holding a ‘Music under the Arches‘ event on the 14th and 15th of July. They have the amazing The Concordia International Ensemble performing on the Saturday staged under their stunning viaduct, and on the Sunday the ‘Sunday Showcase’ of fresh new music talent from around the Somerset area. Brilliant for a weekend of music.

Roman Baths by Torchlight, relax and enjoy the romantic torchlit ambience of the Great Bath. A truly stunning historical setting, much more magical at night!1 July – 31 August, Roman Baths, tel: 01225 477785

Bath Americana Festival, The South West’s favourite festival of American folk music focusing on bluegrass and Appalachian music with a special celebration of the banjo. 4-8 July at the wonderful American Museum.

Bath Guitar Festival, Europe’s number one guitar festival returns for its 19th extravaganza. 19-25 July.

Bath Folk Festival, attend a live gig or learn to play an instrument at various workshops. 13-19 August.

Our lovely garden is coming along fine, got the new turf down, fencing going up, deckchairs ordered but it hasn’t stopped raining since we began! We only hope that we’ll have another late Summer like we did last year so our guests can enjoy the outside, there’s nothing better than tea and cake outside on a lovely afternoon!garden, villa magdala, b&b, bath, best, luxury, boutique

Villa Magdala has been awarded it’s Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence 2012, we are so grateful to have received this again, it really lets us know that what we are doing is to the highest of standards. Thanks to everyone again for such excellent reviews on Trip Advisor.

Our kitchen assistant Joe has had a mention – he created a new dish ‘Granola Glass’ and has been recognised for this,  he is over the moon! Always good when individual staff members are praised. We really appreciate the time and trouble guests go to to post a review – it is so important for us to climb the Trip Advisor ladder!

Breakfasts remain a hugely favoured part of peoples stays with us. Joe has also created his own homemade Orange and Grapefruit marmalade to accompany our breakfasts which guests have been buying as well; seems like he’ll be famous for it soon enough!

Our butcher Arthur (Billy’s best friend-wonder why?) is such a lovely character and also supplies us with only the best local meat produce for our chef William Hyde to cook; which is constantly praised.Villa Magdala, Billy, Dog, Butcher, Arthur, Bath
